We have an exciting opportunity available for a Lead Cloud Platform Engineer based in Sydney, Melbourne orĀ Brisbane on a full-time permanent basis.
As the Lead AWS Cloud Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for the overall technical leadership, service provisioning, operational reliability and continuous improvement of the organisationās AWS cloud platform. Working closely with the Platform Owner, you will prioritise and deliver the backlog, ensuring a scalable, secure, reliable and efficient cloud environment that will underpin many of the businessā applications and workloads going forward.
This role combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, empowering the engineering team to build reusable architecture patterns, focus on automation and deliver robust, well-architected platform services. A strong emphasis will be placed on uplifting platform reliability, streamlining customer onboarding and publishing a service catalogue of platform capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership: Guide the engineering team in best practices, aligning efforts with strategic objectives, and ensuring platform scalability and security.
- Team Development: Mentor and upskill team members, foster collaboration, and lead incident resolution to maintain platform stability.
- Platform Optimisation: Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of AWS services such as compute, networking, storage and IAM, focusing on automation, scalability, and proactive performance and reliability improvements.
- Reusable Architecture: Implement codified patterns with IaC tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) aligned to AWS Well-Architected Framework principles.
- Customer Enablement: Streamline onboarding, ensure workloads align with platform standards, and deliver technical support for cloud services.
- Governance: Enforce compliance with platform standards and manage technical governance frameworks.
Your background
- Advanced AWS experience (e.g., EC2, RDS, VPC, S3, EKS, Transit Gateway) and hands-on expertise in Terraform Enterprise, HashiCorp Vault, GitLab, and Prisma integration
- Hands-on expertise in IaC tools, DevSecOps frameworks and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Terraform, Gitlab, Hashicorp Vault, Prisma)
- Strong skills in landing zone architectures, self-service catalogs and automation.
- Extensive experience in IT, and particularly cloud engineering and leadership roles, preferably in a large corporate environment transitioning from on-premises to cloud-native or hybrid platforms.
- Proven track record in designing and maintaining large-scale cloud platforms, optimising for performance and reliability.
- Deep understanding of DevSecOps practices, iterative delivery methodologies and governance processes.
- Strong mentoring and team-building capabilities.
- Collaborative mindset with excellent communication skills for diverse audiences.
