You will build and maintain strong relationships with world-class researchers and commercialise intellectual property from a wide range of UQ’s faculties, institutes and schools, including the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences, the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, as well as School of ITEE and Faculty of Medicine.

The role will drive the following:

  • Identify and champion commercially valuable UQ IP which can transform the way global communities tackle the big challenges such as mental health, education, and ageing.
  • Determine and secure legal IP rights necessary for commercialisation, including assessment of any third-party obligations (e.g. relating to research collaborations).
  • Prepare Commercialisation and IP strategies, identifying pathways to market and funding requirements.
  • Proactively market deal opportunities.
  • Structure, negotiate and close deals (such as term sheets, licenses, startup creation, and other commercial transactions) to maximise value for UniQuest and UQ.

About You

As the ideal candidate you will have experience conveying ideas clearly and persuasively, fostering strong relationships with clients and partners.

Your recent career experience in business development, NGOs, health, or education will position you for a seamless transition into our dynamic and professional environment.

To support your deal track record with licences and /or startups, you will have tertiary qualifications in field relevant to the position (for example psychology, public health, digital technology, business), preferably to post-graduate level.

You will have a strong understanding of market dynamics, business models, and intellectual property rights, allowing informed decision-making and maximisation of the value of transferred technologies.

To excel in this role you will need to be adaptable, results driven, a problem solver with an entrepreneurial mindset.  Your excellent communication skills enable you to build positive and long-term professional relationships with a broad range of people.

The role is based at UniQuest’s offices on The University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
