The Opportunity

We now have an exciting opportunity available for an OT Network Engineer – Power - West to join our OT Systems team in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide office on a permanent full-time basis. This role covers primarily the Power assets in the West and includes occasional travel to APA Power assets. As needed, secondary support coverage will also include Power assets in the East, and Gas assets with managed site local area networks.

Reporting to directly to the Value Stream Manager, Energy Technology Systems & Data and indirectly to the Manager Power Systems Engineering – West you will be is responsible for performing off-site and onsite OT Networks service management practices. This includes OT networks infrastructure management, change management, incident management, monitoring and even management, service configuration management, service level management, availability management, problem management, service continuity management, lifecycle management and continual improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and fault rectification of technical issues related to OT networking equipment and services.
  • Manage and support Local Area Network (LAN) systems across all OT networks, including switch/router configurations and troubleshooting LAN via tools like Wireshark. Ensure asset management and configuration is documented in ServiceNow CMDB and other approved systems.
  • Maintain and report on OT network diagrams, documentation, and performance metrics, ensuring accountability and operational transparency.
  • Perform technical assurance for designs and implementation, ensuring OT network BAU and project changes meet the standards and compliance before handover.
  • Manage vendor relationships and engage with internal stakeholders to align OT network strategies with APA's organisational goals.
  • Facilitate training sessions and stay updated on OT network engineering trends to enhance team skills and network performance.

Your background

  • Extensive experience in OT network design, operation, maintenance, service, and support in the Energy industry.
  • Operational knowledge of networking systems and software covering both LAN and Wide Area Network (WAN) systems.
  • Knowledge of various OT systems, including SCADA, PLC, RTU, DCS, HMI, with a good understanding of power plants, substations, microgrids, and common protocols such as MODBUS, DNP3, IEC61850, and network devices/architectures.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills and strong communication skills, effective in high-pressure, multi-priority settings.
  • Tertiary Engineering degree with eligibility for Engineers Australia membership
