The Opportunity

We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Cloud Engineering Team Lead in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney or Brisbane on a full-time permanent basis.

Reporting to the Platforms & Engineering Manager and responsible for Lead is responsible for leading and managing the team, strategy, roadmaps, governance, patterns, reporting, cost effective solution designs, financial operation / management, operational health, security compliance (including any vulnerabilities and risk Management), and analysis of APA Cloud Platforms whether the technology is hosted on premise or in the Cloud, (including AWS, Azure and VMware). The cloud infrastructure platform is crucial in providing an exemplary user experience and in supporting platforms and engineering as a supplier and manager of technology. This key role provides technical and thought leadership, setting the Cloud platform direction, and developing product roadmaps that are operationally and strategically in alignment with enterprise strategy. At an operational level, the role requires the mobilisation and management of cloud platform practices and governance to ensure a scalable, robust, secure, reliable and operationally efficient infrastructure platform is delivered and maintained within the allocated budget. The role also provides guidance and input into Cloud Governance Standards and framework.

The location for this role is flexible and hybrid; we will consider locations all over Australia and/or home office. We will also consider job share arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement cloud platform strategies, roadmaps, and governance.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards and manage risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Collaborate with APA business stakeholders and external partners.
  • Manage budgets and operational costs, identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Manage team performance, coaching, and professional development.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps and CI/CD patterns and toolchains
  • Transition and support the TEP platform to operations and deliver TEP platform services.

Your background

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
  • 10 Plus years of IT experience, with a minimum of 5 years in cloud engineering or management.
  • Extensive experience with AWS and Azure platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of virtualized and container infrastructure (e.g., Windows, VMware, Kubernetes).
  • Proven ability to manage and optimise large-scale cloud solutions.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, planning, and strategic management abilities.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of influencing and negotiating with stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps and CI/CD patterns and toolchains
