The Institute for Integrated and Intelligent Systems (IIIS) was established in 2003 to enhance Griffith's ICT research environment that can stimulate world class research. In the latest 2012, 2015, 2018 ERA ratings, its Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing research group at Griffith University (FOR code 0801) was continuously rated 4 (above world standard) - the only group that consecutively achieved 4 or above in the state of Queensland.

The ARC Research Hub for driving farming productivity and disease prevention is an Australian research centre of excellence for industrial transformation funded by Federal Government and industry. The ARC Research Hub combines world leading capabilities in machine vision, machine learning, software quality control, engineering, biology, and farming industries to invent and adopt technologies to enable higher farming efficiency, lower production costs and disease risks.

The opportunity

We are currently looking for a Research Fellow to work on the research projects funded by the Australian Research Council in collaboration with various industry partners.  You will work with renowned and eminent researchers in developing innovative machine learning, computer vision, and pattern recognition techniques and applying machine learning tools and packages to resolve machine intelligence problems.  The primary focus of this role is conducting theoretical and fundamental research to advance knowledge base and developing novel algorithms for real-world applications.

The successful applicant will also be required to work at other participating universities of the Hub including travel to and work jointly with Professor Dacheng Tao at the University of Sydney, Professor Anton van den Hengel and Professor Chunhua Shen at the University of Adelaide, Professor Mohammed Bennamoun and Professor Ajmal Mian at the University of West Australia, as well as visit industry locations around Australia.

This is a fixed term (three year appointment with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and mutual agreement), full time position based at the Nathan campus.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have a PhD in computer science, engineering, applied mathematics, or equivalent qualifications in a relevant field. You will have a strong desire to build a career in machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence, and computer vision with the demonstrated ability to undertake research projects, including publishing in high-quality journals or conferences. The Institute seeks an enthusiastic individual who is committed to becoming an integral part of the research team.

Salary range

Research Fellow Grade 1: $73,791 - $86,579 per annum. Salary package including 17% superannuation contribution: $86,336 - $101,299 per annum

Research Fellow Grade 2: $94,361 - $112,057 per annum.  Salary package including 17% superannuation contribution: $110,403 - $131,108 per annum.

The level of appointment offered will be dependant on qualifications and experience.
