Senior Research Engineer (Robotics and Autonomous Systems)
The position of Senior Research Engineer (Robotics and Autonomous Systems) will play an integral role in enabling projects across QUT, and especially those being developed through the QUT Centre for Robotics (QCR).
Established in 2020, the QCR conducts world-leading research in intelligent robotics. We translate fundamental research into real-world outcomes that benefit industry and society. Our experts are leaders in education, training and development of talent in robotics and autonomous systems and provide leadership in technological policy development and societal debate. The applications of our research extend to agriculture, health and medicine, environmental monitoring, infrastructure monitoring, manufacturing, mining and construction.
The Senior Research Engineer (Robotics and Autonomous Systems) will deliver hardware and software systems, will support the Centre’s core research activities, and will take a lead in creating demonstrations for, and working with, industry. We are looking for someone who likes building things and can integrate systems to help develop both robotic and perception platforms.
Skilled in both hardware and software implementations, the role will involve designing and delivering systems in domains such as computer vision, artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning, and will support robotic field trials and data collection. An important component of the role is to coordinate and support a broad range of research activities within the robotics and autonomous systems domain. This position works within a nine-person engineering team, operating under broad direction with minimal supervision, and will require the ability to work independently, while applying a high level of judgement.
