Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join School of Law, Faculty of Business and Law, Academic Division.

This role provides a unique opportunity for the right person to conduct research with a large, nationally representative data set that has direct policy and practice implications in the area of child maltreatment. It would suit a public health researcher, statistician or allied health professional interested in working to prevention child maltreatment in Australia.

We’re offering this role as a hybrid position as part of QUT’s commitment to embracing the opportunities created by a more virtual and connected world.

Real world impact

QUT is a major Australian university with a global outlook and a 'real world' focus. We are an ambitious and collaborative institution that seeks to equip our students and graduates with the skills they will need in an increasingly disrupted and challenged world.

About the area

The Australian Child Maltreatment Study (ACMS) is the first nation-wide study of the prevalence and health impacts of child maltreatment. It has generated for the first time data on how many Australians have experienced each of the five types of child maltreatment (physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, and exposure to domestic violence) and their associated impacts on a range of mental health and health risk behaviours, and burden of disease. The ACMS was funded by the NHMRC with additional funding provided by the Australian Government. The ACMS interviewed 8503 randomly recruited Australians aged 16-65 years and older about their experiences in childhood and a range of health and socio-economic outcomes through life. This has provided an incredibly rich, nationally representative dataset which can be used to answer multiple significant questions relevant to public health policy, public health law, and policy and practice across multiple sectors. More information about the study and published outcomes can be found on the ACMS website..
