Who we are

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) commenced operations in 2013 as the national entity responsible for regulating all heavy vehicles with a gross vehicle mass over 4.5 tonnes. We are headquartered in Brisbane and employ more than 900 people across the ACT, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria.


About the role

Within the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s (NHVR) Data and Technology division, the Cyber Security Analyst is responsible for protecting the NHVR’s hardware, software and networks from theft, loss or unauthorised access.

At a high level, you will conduct the analysis of systems and undertake threat-hunting and penetration testing. You will be responsible for the reassessment of vendors and ensure they are upholding their contractual obligations.

You will liaise with the security operations centre (SOC) to mitigate and remediate identified attacks and phishing attempts. You will also participate in simulations providing security advice on identified gaps through continuous improvement.

About You

With a minimum of three years’ in a Cyber Security role, you will demonstrate a strong working knowledge of past, present and future technologies and have experience with end point protections, Security Information Event Management (SIEM), reporting and threat hunting using cyber tools.

Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, or position-related qualifications such as Certificate 4 in Business (Cyber Security) or ITIL v3 Foundation Certificate, will be highly regarded. Experience with an enterprise ticket system for processing and triaging of incidents is required.

With strong communication skills, you will have experience working with internal stakeholders and vendors. You will be able to effectively engage in cross-communication and assist with the interpretation of “tech-talk”.

You will possess good analytical skills surrounding infrastructure and be able to demonstrate your understanding of protocols and exploitations across various services, as well as the full scope of work that is required for external engagement.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and organised, with strong attention to detail to look after multiple areas at one time and accurately record information.
